When I first started playing EVE, I rarely went on Level 4 combat mission ops with my alliance mates. I had kind of an inferiority complex about my ship-fitting skills, and I just wasn’t in the mood to be told what to do. (Fairly typical for me outside EVE, too.)
Although I later got over my reluctance to take part in group ops, I still retained a strong tendency to go it alone on missions. I set myself the task of soloing every L4 in the game, with just a T2-fit Drake . I was told a number of times that a Drake couldn’t do all of them, particularly not the Angel Extravaganza Bonus Room, but being as stubborn as I am, I had to go for it anyway or blow up trying.
I’m happy to report that I did get through all the L4s I could find listed anywhere at the time — which was, incidentally, before the Drake nerf. My goal now is to try again with the rebalanced Drake and run some tests with the Nighthawk and Tengu, as well. It’s possible I’ll also experiment with the Brutix and Hurricane.
Why battlecruisers? I just like ’em, for one thing, and for another, I enjoy seeing what happens when I put myself into situations where I may not have the optimal equipment. I’ve got battleships to pick from, sure, but I like the battlecruisers better.
Starting this week, I’ll post a bingo card type of thing listing all the L4s I can find, along with commentary on how each went. There are better, more complete sources on missions, so I’m not trying to duplicate their efforts. I like making fun of myself and anything that strikes me as goofy, so that’s the gist of what you’re likely to see here.
1. We used to hear that the Drake was considered “easy mode” in EVE, but I guess that all kinda depends on what you’re trying to do with it, right? 🙂 You wanna talk hard mode? That’d be the pre-balance Brutix, at least for the way I fly.
